Shelf life is the transit time that actually matters

A chilled load with twelve days of life cannot take an eighteen-day ocean crossing, however cheap the box. Food freight starts with the set-point, the remaining life and whether the destination will let it in. We book reefer containers and cool-chain air against those numbers. We do not “do our best” with a dry van and a bag of ice.

Dry grocery, beverages and shelf-stable goods move as ordinary FCL or LCL, still with food-grade common sense (no stuffing with chemicals, no mystery labels). We are a forwarder. We do not operate a HACCP cold-store campus. Temperature records come from the reefer unit or the airline product; specialist cold storage, when needed, is a named facility.

This page is for you if…

  • Chilled or frozen goods with a stated set-point
  • Dry food or beverage exports that still need a clean description and a date
  • FDA Prior Notice or destination veterinary/food controls may apply
  • You want ocean versus air decided by remaining shelf life, not by habit

This is not the page for…

  • Restaurant last-mile or meal-kit van delivery
  • Claiming our Newark warehouse is a certified cold chamber
  • Live animals or personal-effects food parcels as a product

What we move for food shippers

Temperature-controlled loads

Chilled and frozen product in ocean reefers or on cool-chain air, with a set-point on the booking and a unit that is actually set to it.

  • Set-point and ventilation as booking fields
  • Air when life remaining is shorter than ocean transit
  • Carrier temperature records — not a screenshot of a hope

Dry grocery and beverages

Canned, bottled, bagged and otherwise stable goods as FCL or LCL. Still food: labels, lot codes and a packing list a border vet can read.

  • Newark palletising when vendors arrive separately
  • Segregation from DG and from strong-odour cargo in LCL
  • Ocean unless a promotion date forces air

Staging and export build

Hold dry cargo, check counts, load. Chilled product is not stored on our general floor waiting for a vessel that is a week away.

  • Dry staging in Newark
  • Reefer cargo timed to the gate-in, not to our convenience
  • Specialist cold store booked when a hold is unavoidable

Food rules on the file

FDA Prior Notice for many U.S. exports’ counterpart on import, plus whatever the destination requires (health certs, veterinary, labelling).

  • We flag the likely papers at quote stage
  • We do not invent a health certificate — the competent issuer does
  • Cargo that cannot be certified does not get a cheerful sailing date

Services this cargo usually uses

Reefer ocean for volume with enough life. Cool-chain air when it does not. Customs on both sides of the border.

How a food shipment is booked

  1. Product, set-point, life remaining

What it is, frozen/chilled/dry, the temperature, and how many days it can travel. Without those, there is no honest mode.

  2. Mode against the calendar

Reefer ocean if transit plus buffer fits the life. Air if it does not. Mixed loads that cannot share a set-point are split.

  3. Papers and packing

Labels, lot codes, any health certificate, FDA-related filings the shipment needs. Then we book the unit and file the export.

  4. Keep the chain

Gate-in timed so the reefer is not sitting unplugged. Destination agent ready to collect. A broken plug is a claim, not a mystery.

Papers this cargo usually needs

Commercial invoice and packing list with lot codes
Food agencies read lot codes. “Assorted grocery” is how entries stall.
Temperature instructions
Set-point in writing. This is the booking, not a sticker on the carton.
Health / veterinary certificates
Where the destination requires them, issued by the competent body. We tell you when they are likely; we cannot stamp them ourselves.
FDA and destination food filings
Prior Notice and equivalent destination notices coordinated so the cargo is expected, not discovered.

Food freight questions

What food products can you transport?

Chilled, frozen and dry grocery and beverages as freight. We do not run restaurant delivery or ship live animals.

How do you keep perishables in spec?

By booking a reefer or a cool-chain air product with a set-point, timing the handover, and refusing dry transport when the product cannot survive it.

Are you HACCP / FDA certified as a warehouse?

We arrange compliant transport and export filing. We do not market a cold-store certification we do not hold. Specialist cold storage is booked with a facility that does.

Can you mix chilled and dry in one container?

Only if they share a set-point that keeps both legal and saleable. Otherwise they are two bookings. A “little bit cold” dry grocery load is how you get both condensation and a claim.
